The collapse of mathematical equations. What is it good for?

Quanta Magazine published an interesting article on the challenges faced by theoretical particle physicists in modeling experiments to forecast the collisions of subatomic particles. The article describes the research of Sebastian Mizera of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, and Pierpaolo Mastrolia from the University of Padua in Italy.
